Traineeship Completed for Adam, Now What's Next?

POSTED ON May 18, 2023

Hessel Group Training Organisation (GTO) is proud to have supported another skilled and compassionate person to enter the care sector through a traineeship.

With a strong background of working in South Australia's Food Industry gaining vast experience and skills across everything from packaging to Occupational Health and Safety and manufacturing, Adam noticed Hessel GTO's advertisement for an Aged Care Traineeship and applied.

The traineeship recruitment process is just like any other where applicants;

  • apply for the role (one page cover letter and resume)
  • have a phone conversation with a team member from Hessel Group's recruitment team
  • attend a face to face interview with the Hessel Group recruitment team
  • meet with their potential host employer
  • reference checks

Adam's process occurred through the Covid-19 pandemic yet through theses challenges and with his professionalism and communication, we were thrilled to advise him that he had won the role and his host employer, Uniting Communities were excited to welcome him to the team.

Adam was introduced to Hessel GTO Field Officer, Bernie Crafter who then commenced his onboarding which can be substantial so to have this support immediately makes the process less overwhelming.

Adam has been a model trainee who has worked hard and shown true dedication not only to his work but with his study. Adam’s commitment, empathy and gentle approach to his customers is evident. It’s been a pleasure working with Adam to see him complete his traineeship. I wish him every success as he follows and reaches all his goals and dreams." - Bernie Crafter, Hessel GTO Field Officer

Bernie enrolled Adam in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) CHC33015 at Enhance Training RTO 40387 where his trainer and assessor would be Mel Averis who would also provide support through the traineeship. His host supervisor at Uniting Communities is Care Team Coordinator, Natalie who would also mentor Adam to become the best support worker he could be.

Adam decided to have a career change, coming into a female dominated industry with very little knowledge of the aged care sector.

Adam put his heart and sole into his studies, which at times was challenging for Adam, he worked hard and was committed to achieving his ultimate goal - supporting the older person in the community and achieving his Cert III Individual Support in Ageing qualification. He never gave up!

Adam submitted his assignments regularly, he learnt how to capture industry terminology that reflected empathy and respect.

Adam, congratulations you worked very hard balancing your private life  and studying.

Isobel from MAS National then met with Bernie and Adam to sign the training contract and this officially commenced the traineeship.

Early on, Adam did have some nervous moments where that natural self-doubt creeps in or those lifestyle interruptions that can get in the way of study occur however they were easily overcome with the support of Natalie, Mel and Bernie (plus his broader network) and Adam thrived.

With the signing off on his final assessment unit, WHAT'S NEXT? Adam is now Uniting Communities' newest skilled, trained and experienced support worker, going to work with a big grin on his face knowing that every day is different. One day Adam could be supporting a client in their home with their household chores and then next he could be taking them to an appointment.

Uniting Communities are lucky to have you Adam, we wish you every success with your future.

Look out for Adam in the below video and share it with someone who you think would make an outstanding Support Worker. Maybe a traineeship will suit them too?
