The weekend of the Source Kids Disability Expo will be remembered for a long time to come.
A memorable moment during the event was the engaging 'jamming' sessions led by our talented Music Therapist, Jarran.
We asked Jarran to share his reflections on his experience and his thoughts on the future of Music Therapy.
" Stepping into the bustling halls of the Adelaide Convention Centre, I could have never known the world that I would encounter, a world where limitations were merely stepping stones to progress, resilience and incredible feats. Like a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds, the whole weekend buzzed with the energy of hundreds of children, each one finding face paint, new friends and fun."
Each of the families I met at the Hessel Group stand and the stage was a new and unique story of different strengths, challenges and ways to view the world. In every interaction, I found myself making new friends through the shared inherent language of music. I believe we all have this language, even if sometimes we don’t recognise it."
Reflecting on the day, I feel immense gratitude for the children who came to perform onstage with Teresa and me, showing the communal nature of music. At Source Kids, I met superheroes - not the kind you read about in comic books, but the kind who have an individual brand of genius and unlimited potential to offer the world. Their joyful presence exemplified how music provides an inherent language we all share."
"Through my work in Music Therapy with Hessel Group, I hope to unlock this superhero potential in each child I meet. Whether addressing physical, cognitive, social or emotional needs, Music Therapy can help discover and develop their superpower. Its rhythms, melodies and metaphors possess profound abilities to facilitate self-expression, improve communication, cultivate focus and activate the mind-body connection.
I've witnessed how music can be the bridge to confidence, independence and joy for these extraordinary children. With personalised, compassionate sessions tailoring the music experience, I am committed to helping all my new superhero friends discover their inherent harmonies and launch their unique genius into the world. Their potential is truly limitless when the transcendent language of music is embraced."
