We recently caught up with Disability Support Worker for Hessel Group, Michelle to reflect on this path she has chosen for a career while asking her about the challenges and the rewards she faced along the way.
The course Michelle enrolled in:
The Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) CHC33015 course is designed to help students make a positive impact on the lives of people living with a disability. Students learn to support each client's needs through a hands-on approach to learning.
This course focuses on providing a range of theory and practical skills to support clients in reaching their individual goals and develop independence to live fulfilling lives.
Students learn how to support, meet and maintain personal care; contribute towards client's skill development; create and perform activities related to individualised plans, and choose their own electives to further knowledge in specific topics.
Enhance Training RTO 40387 provides training courses in Early Childhood Education & Care, Aged Care and Disability Support as well as short courses and professional development courses. Michelle is pictured alongside her dedicated trainer, Mel, from Enhance Training. Together, they form a dynamic duo, equipping Michelle with the skills and knowledge she needs to succeed in her new career.
Michelle's previous working history:
Michelle had been working at a supermarket and began to not enjoy the work. After some career counselling sessions, she changed to Disability Support to gain a sense of purpose and make a positive difference in people’s lives. Michelle wanted a career she could be passionate about, not just a job.
Wanting to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the industry, Michelle enrolled in the Certificate III Individual Support Course CHC33015 with Enhance Training to give her the best introduction to her new career.
It wasn't long before Michelle's talents were recognised by Hessel Group and Michelle was hired as a Disability Support Worker on a casual basis while she completed her studies. This allowed Michelle to select her working hours to allow her to study and manage her household and lifestyle.
Michelle working together with Hessel Group's esteemed professionals, Doinita, the Intake Officer, and Louise, the Recruitment Officer to provide exceptional support to clients and their families.
Today, she works with many clients and their families to support them to live as independently as possible and to achieve their goals. Michelle is a dedicated, driven and qualified support worker and a highly valued member of the Hessel Group team.
In Part 2, we continue to delve into Michelle's study and new career at Hessel Group.
