POSTED ON September 8, 2023

We were excited that Enhance Training's Individual Support student, Elliot dropped into Head Office in Fullarton today to collect his completion certificate. In 2021, Elliot enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) CHC33015 course in 2021 after experiences with disability advocacy, retail and Early Childhood Education & Care.

Having a disability himself Elliot understands the industry and the needs of people and the families who live with disability and felt he could add value and meaning in this line of work. An avid learner, Elliot has always embraced any opportunity to develop his skills professionally by undertaking courses and workshops.

With this course, there is a requirement for students to undertake 120 hours of placement to demonstrate knowledge and use of skills. Elliot undertook his placement with SACARE where he was supported and guided by their experienced team and assessed by Enhance Training's Trainers & Assessors. Some of the tasks Elliot completed on placement were:

- handover meetings at the start of the shift.
- covid cleaning with hospital disinfectants all touch point areas.
- communicating with team leader about appointments planned and actions required.
- presenting at the Participants room and starting their daily routine.
- support Bowel care, shower, shave and oral care according to the care plan.
- support dressing for the day and transfer to the wheelchair / chair if applicable .
- preparing breakfast and supporting the participant with feeding.
- attending any appointments or activities with participants.
- giving additional support if needed including emotional support.
- preparing morning tea and lunch and support participants with feeding.
- during the shift completing all paperwork and charts.
- reporting any reportable issues / incidents .
- cleaning the house / room before finishing off the shift.

Elliot can be very proud of this amazing achievement in his career and we wish him all the very best with what lays ahead. Today though, he was joined by his support worker, Emma who then supported Elliot to attend his work at the Gepps Cross Football Club working as part of their kitchen team.
