October 24-30 2022 is National Developmental Educators (DE) Week and Hessel Group and our Developmental Educators, Fatema and Claire are excited to be able to share their experiences and bring awareness to this critical allied health service. DE is a service dedicated to fostering empowerment, social inclusion and quality of life for people with a disability and their families. DE's are multidisciplinary, degree qualified disability specialists with experience in a variety of disability, human service, mental health and educational settings.

DE's have a practical approach and work holistically to address issues which may affect the function, independence and social inclusion of people with disability, their families and their support workers. DE's implement and develop methodologies that enable the application of effective strategies to support the individual developmental learning goals of those who experience challenges such as acquired brain injury, physical and neurological disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities.

Hessel Group's DE's, Fatema and Claire are able to work with our clients from our clinic in Fullarton, at schools, workplaces and within the community which allows for flexibility and familiarity as well as including and collaborating with teachers, families and care givers to reach the best possible outcomes for everyone. These strategies could include communications skills, interpretation, program adaptation, transition support to facilitate greater independence.

DE Week (1)

DE's teach functional life skills including social, self care, daily living, community access, recreation and employment skills as well as skill development for toileting, dressing, sleeping, personal hygiene and cooking.

This week allows us to bring awareness to this important service and is proud of the outcomes Fatema and Claire deliver for our clients, their families, support workers and our Allied Health, Support Services and Behaviour Support Services Team.
