Antonieta Shares Her Learning Experiences

We all enjoy meeting new people, understanding their goals and why they want to start new careers, upskill or do something new. We had a chat recently with student, Antonieta where we found her in Mel's class at the Enhance Training Skills Lab studying for her Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) CHC33015 as part of a traineeship in Aged Care.

Antonieta (pictured with her trainer, Mel) is mum to two daughters now aged 17 and 24 and she recently began considering her career options. Before becoming a parent, she worked as a nurse in the Philippines, Singapore and USA. Now that her daughters are older, she has decided to do something for herself and go back to a profession she has always loved and to use her skills of caring for people in a new career in aged care.

On noticing some advertising by leading South Australian provider, My Care Solution promoting a mature age traineeship, Antonieta applied for the opportunity and was successful in progressing through the recruitment process. The traineeship which includes one day of study per week with Enhance Training RTO 40387 commenced in March and she hopes to have her study completed by the end of 2022.

"I have been learning about the legislation and laws governing the aged care industry and how understanding the rules gives students broad understanding of responsibilities and invokes confidence at work knowing we're doing what is right."  Antonieta, Trainee My Care Solution.

"The great thing about Antonieta is that she is really interactive in class.  She is not afraid to ask questions which helps the whole class to expand their knowledge.  As an existing trainee she shows the ability to take what she learns in class and apply it in the workplace."  Beth, Enhance Training Trainer & Assessor.

This format of study is designed to be flexible, supportive and collaborative, providing the opportunity for people to apply their newly learned skills directly into the workplace. Antonieta has found the classes delivered by trainers Mel or Beth to be personalised and well-structured helping her to re-enter the workforce in the aged care sector with confidence.

People employed on a traineeship are able to work full time or part time with a host organisation which includes one day a week of study all while earning an income. Traineeships typically run for 12 months and are the ideal way to commence a new career in a new industry and for organisations to build their skilled workforce pipeline for the future. For organisations, traineeships allow them to grow their teams and have their experienced and knowledgeable staff support the trainees, however we also find trainees bring their new knowledge and skills to the workplace and staff learn just as much from them too.

Enhance Training specialises in delivering nationally recognised courses in aged care, disability support and early childhood education and care. Our trainers are all experienced or continue to work in their industries and share that knowledge with their students ensuring training remains practical and interesting.

Enhance Training enjoys collaborating with leading industry organisations to upskill staff, introducing new talent to organisations and working with people who are enthusiastic about making a difference through their careers.

Through life experience comes maturity, reliability, empathy, and compassion, and many employers find that these are desirable characteristics for community service workers in delivering premium care and support to their clients.
